Do It Yourself Design Information and Tips
When you have an new design project and you're busily sourcing quotes and information, the technical jargon can be overwhelming.
You may find a printer asking you for an 'EPS' version of your logo. Or a High Res Image.
Or perhaps you'd like to get in an get creative yourself?
Here's some useful information for you to get started with some Design DIY.
Common Terms
High Res (resolution): An image of at least 300 dpi (dot's per inch). This is usually required when your image is being printed professionally.
Web Ready Image: An image which has been sized to 72 dpi while retaining it's optimal clarity. For use online or in emails.
EPS (Electronic Post Script): A scalable vector format image. Used in logo design to allow for resizing without loss of quality.
Print Ready (or Print Ready PDF): A document that is formatted with high resolution images, CMYK colour and print marks. Design software like Adobe InDesign helps designers create print ready PDFs.
Vector Image: A scalable image, mathematically resizable without loss of quality. Design software like Adobe Illustrator helps designers create vector images.
Bitmap (Raster) Image: A non scalable image. For example a photograph. File types include jpg, gif, bmp.
CMYK Colour: It stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black. Files that will be professionally printed are usually set up in CMYK.
RGB Colour: Red, Green, Blue. This colour model is used for on screen display (TV, Monitors).
HexColour: A hexadecimal representation of RGB color, used for HTML in websites.
